Workresources.org is a project of Lincoln Action Program funded by a grant award from the United States Department of Commerce's Technology Opportunities Program. The project assists the residents of Lancaster & Saunders Counties (Nebraska) as they secure and retain employment. Employers and human service agencies also benefit from the project.

The workresources.org project features this web portal with a wealth of local information and links to work resources and social services. The database contains over 1,200 programs and services offered in Southeast Nebraska. The Needs Assessment Survey performs a sophisticated, multi-topic search of this data. Portions of this data are visible on the Services for Workers pages, and the text search function allows additional access to the data.

In addition to its online presence, workresources.org allows individuals who want to study for the GED or brush up on their academic skills before taking a college entrance exam to access the online PLATOŽ Web Learning Network through licenses purchased by this project. This adult education opportunity works in partnership with Southeast Community College, where students take initial assessments that enable teachers to assign appropriate study material. PLATOŽ is available anywhere students can be online and download the small software plug-ins required to operate the lessons. Community college instructors monitor the progress of students and assign additional materials as the student progresses.

Workresources.org also provides classroom instruction in basic computer skills at Lincoln Action Program's Computer Learning Lab , a 16-seat, accessible classroom located in the agency headquarters building in Lincoln. Through this project, low-income students completing 30 hours of study receive free personal computers, which have been donated to LAP for refurbishing. The computers are equipped with Windows 2000, Open Source office and typing software, and a 56k modem. This allows program participants to practice skills learned in the Lab and connect to the Internet from home in order to access workresources.org or PLATOŽ GED resources at any time.

In addition to our Computer Learning Lab, we work in partnership with Nebraska Workforce Development's One Stop Career Center, so that individuals seeking employment assistance there have the opportunity to connect to workresources.org and its services. Additional Community Access Centers where the public can utilize our online services over high-speed Internet connections include the United Methodist Ministries' Computer Lab (established with computers and technical assistance from this project), public libraries and community centers.
